GPA issues in sororities

by:

I want to rush this fall, however my high school gpa is only a 2.7. Major family struggles/issues occurred my sophomore year of high school which caused my grades to decline. By the end of my junior year to beginning of senior year I learned how to balance my work and brought my grades back up, however my GPA was already set. Despite my GPA I was extremely involved in my community and president of various organizations as well. Would my other qualities be taken into consideration?

Unfortunately gpa is a big factor in recruitment despite being involved in a lot. That’s one of the first qualities that sororities look at and the top ones cut a lot of girls based on that.

grades matter unfortunately. even bottom tier houses have a decent standard when it comes to grades. At the end of the day, all sorority girls are one big community that strives for success. Having good grades is just one of those quantifiable things that they are looking for.

Honestly don’t rush in the fall most of the houses will cut you just because of grades and you won’t get a fair look. Focus on getting a 4.0 your first semester and then come spring look at what houses are taking girls. Go and see if you like them and if not go rush next fall as a sophomore. If you have good grades you will have way more opportunities.

GPA is something every house considers. But being involved in your community and holding leadership roles is something very desirable too. Some houses might cut you immediately for gpa, some might look past it in favor of everything else. Every house values different qualities, but all want success.

My advice, go ahead and rush. If you end up with a house you don’t like, you can drop. After dropping, you can spend the next year focusing on grades and then you can rush again.

I would go through rush cause you never know.
New a girl with a lower hs gpa then yours that got a snap bid after she thought she wouldn’t get bid & was cut by all houses.
She is really pretty & joined a house that is discussed here a lot as one that has really good looking members.
It doesn’t sound good, but it’s true, if you’re really pretty there are some houses that may offer you snap if they don’t make quota.
