phi mu

by: Question

So back when AXiD was voted on campus, they also voted to bring Phi Mu on next. Is there any estimate when that will happen?

Anyone know why Phi Mu and Gamma Phi Beta folded at Tech, and when?

Phi mu is not strong nationally and is only top at maybe 3 southern schools… also less and less girls are going through recruitment so it doesn’t make sense to add a new sorority… plus where would they have a lodge?

the decision to stack extension and invite AXiD followed by PM was an impulsive and emotional decision that was not part of the plan when the college Panhellenic initially decided to grow to add a new sorority. I believe once the presentations were done, it was a harder decision than the committee thought it would be, but AXiD was the front runner primarily b/c the Burkhart center was new & their philanthropy at the time gave them what people expected would be an instant connection to campus. AND, AXiD has a chapter at UT, which Tech likes to hate but also wants to emulate. But Phi Mu complicated the choice b/c they had a national officer at the time who was a Tech Phi Mu alumna & she came to the presentation, and that pulled at the committee's heartstrings...so they made the decision to make the stacked invitation. TBH anyone around at the time who knew how long it had taken for the Panhellenic to recover after GPB left could see the writing on the wall--if AXiD managed to get a foothold, it would take years and by then the interest in PM by the campus would wane. PM is an outstanding national organization (honestly all NPC organizations are excellent), and would go through just as much struggle to get established at Tech as anyone else. But I sincerely doubt the invitation is still valid, and it's likely that PM's extension goals have changed since then. In other words, don't hold your breath about PM coming to Tech in the foreseeable future.
