phi mu

by:

So back when AXiD was voted on campus, they also voted to bring Phi Mu on next. Is there any estimate when that will happen?

No new sororities will be on campus for a long time.

By: nope

So why did they even bother voting on stacked extension? Sucks for Phi Mu to get their hopes up. Should have selected them first.

On some campuses due to the lack of interest in sorority membership by current students, NPC groups have been known to cancel planned colonizations. There have also been intentional cancellations by colleges and universities of announced NPC colonies. Additional reasons for colony cancellation can be: lack of follow-thru on the part of the NPC due to finances; upcoming colonies at larger/more prestigious schools; low alum numbers available to help a new colony; and the fact the original interest group desiring colonization has graduated before the college allowed a new NPC colony onto campus. There have even been NPC's that interview women for a colony, then decide no women on that campus will truly live up to that group's expectations and cancel the colony before pledging begins.

FYI Phi Mu is a sister organization to ADPi and without a house would indefinitely fail. Considering ADPi as a national org doesn’t fund the Texas Tech Chapter...my guess is Phi Mu would be a huge waste of everyone’s time.

What the hell is a "sister organization?" The 26th NPC organizations are all independent entities. The way ADII is run has nothing whatsoever to do with anything. Phi Mu is an extremely well run & strong national organization that would pull out all the stops to make sure a chapter at Tech would succeed. Also, no one has houses at Tech, so do you even know what you are talking about? A house =/= a lodge, and Phi Mu would absolutely build or renovate a lodge.

There is no land for phi mu to buy in Greek circle & no existing house is going to sell to phi mu even if they’re temporarily kicked off.
Question: national orgs don't fund a schools chapter, chapters fund national orgs through their dues. So what are you talking about re: ADPI?

phi mu is not a sister organization of adpi. adpi originally had 7 founding members. 6 months after adpis creation one of those 7 got upset and formed their own sorority which is now phi mu. so yes a lot of the traditions and things are similar however they are not sister organizations.

No one cares about Phi Mu....especially in Texas. Phi Mu had chapters at Texas and Texas A&M and both folded. No thanks..

I care. My aunt and sister are Tech phi mu. I would have gone phi mu for sure but they picked azd. I went to a few meetings about being a founding sister at the new colony. they were recruiting quite a few girls for an interest group

Phi Mu had a chapter at Texas Tech for a long time, my great-grandmother helped start the sorority there in the 50’s. My mom was a member there as well. That’s why they want it bring them back, because they were one of the first Sororities on the Tech Campus.

Hi! My mom was a Phi Mu at Texas Tech from 1958-1962. I am trying to help find out what the chapter name was. Can you help?

Agreed. It colonized in 1958! Any idea why it lost charter? I think Phi Mu and Gamma Phi beta should have recolonized over added Alpha xi Delta

I think that op was assuming that since they are “sister organizations,” phi mu would be run the same way as adpi is run, financially speaking. But I’m not sure whether that would be true or not

Even though I'm already in a house I think it would be cool for phi mu to come to tech. They have a good national organization and are moving more south and the others schools that have phi mu's are cute

I am sorry that is just not true. Ca population grows by the day. Los Angeles has more people than your largest city.

lets just call CA and TX large and equally needed for alum networks

so false. California has almost 40 million residents. Los angeles has 2 million more than houston, our biggest city.

I agree. CA and TX are both such large states with greek alum that it is pretty vital to grow the chapters there. Plus both states have a growing number of applicants to each school.

I think phu mu should have gotten the charter. It was already at tech and there were many alum in the state who wanted to help.

AZD is more prominent in the north.

AZD won’t last at Tech. They will never get a lodge here on Greek circle. Their alum base in Texas is small and no one knows them. They have 4 maybe 5 chapters in Texas and they’re all awful. Phi Mu was a much better choice for Tech.

I had never heard of axid before they came here. I don’t know anyone who has a grandma who is one. I don’t think they have any support within Texas. Plus alum support takes years to grow. These girls in a few years will be 23 years old and not donating tens of thousands back to their sorority

by: Tech chicks

I never heard of AZD either. Phi Mu at least seems so southern to me and cute.

I feel like azd only got added because of the Burkhart Center for Autism opening at the time and their philanthropy being autism. Gave them an on campus philanthropy role
