fall recruitment

by:

so im participating in fall recruitment and im debating to even rush or not bc of my 2.79 GPA! otherwise than that, im a social butterfly and was very involved in school with sports, organizations and community service. im getting letters of rec as well and im confident with my outer appearance but school was never my forte so my grades were some A's, B's and C's and a retaken math class.. I know academics is a huge part of it so im afraid I won't even get a bid?! is there girls with lower gpa's that were in sororities? im gonna really try to apply myself cause college is the real deal but my high school grades were ok.

Grades are very important to sororities. Panhellenic makes it clear that you are taking a serious risk if you rush with a GPA below a 3.0. You should be prepared to have serious cuts after the first day. If you are VERY connected to a sorority or a legacy they may look past your GPA. Best of luck! At the end of the day, even if you end up not pledging you will meet lots of friends during recruitment, so I would for sure go for it!

say I don't get a bid, but I try rushing in the spring or next fall once I can prove myself with better grades, is that like an unspoken no no? would they not give me one again bc I was "that girl"? or would they look past it and admire how I improved? I know you can't speak on behalf of all the chapters but like a more or less type of thing.

look up the sorority grade reports for the fall of 2017 and that'll will give you an idea on the gpas they normally take. there are some sororities who have new members gpas at 2.8 and up. I wouldn't be worried because everyone situation is different.

The "new member" GPA is the GPA of the new PC after an entire semester of classes at college. A 2.8 in college is VERY different from a 2.8 in high school. I'm sure that girls get into sororities with 2.8 HS GPAs, but having a lower GPA definitely hinders your chances, especially in the "top" houses. Pi Phi, Theta and Kappa (top 3 in grades) alone could make entire pledge classes out of the girls coming in with 4.0 HS GPAs if they wanted to, so why would they take someone with a low GPA? I'm not saying you're screwed if you have a lower GPA but it definitely will not help you during recruitment.
