new sorority?

by: TTUgirl

Just out of curiosity. I know, there's been some talk about new sororities on campus, and I just wanted to know everyone's thoughts. Which sorority would you like to see on campus? or do you think its a bad idea? Any thoughts? (even if your happily in another sorority)

I'd love to see DZ on campus.

Hell, whatever happened to Gamma Phi Beta? They used to have a chapter(lived at ATO's lodge, I think) years ago.

Do with Phi Mu, AOPi, Gamma Phi, DZ, SK or AXiD.

Phi Mu, Sigma Kappa and Gamma Phi Beta all had chapters on campus that closed.

Knew SK and Gamma Phi did. Still, there's more people rushing, they'd probably stay openn at this point.

DZ, Gamma Phi Beta, and Phi Mu. Supposedly these sororities are pushing for another street which would be Greek Circle 3. They don't want to start up though without a lodge.

Really should be a Greek Circle three, its kind of embarrising how many GLO's at Tech don't have a lodge given that TTU is like the third or fourth best Greek life in the state, and I'd lay a lot of blame on the restrictiveness of Greek Circle.

Agreed. Greek circle 3 is a must now

Phi Mu, Gamma Phi and SK all had chapters at Tech. I'd say go with Gamma Phi since they're the strongest nationally of the three. After that, Phi Mu. DZ doesn't belong at a school like Tech--they're not strong enough nationally.

Loose your boy friend to a DZ? ha

They are all strong brands that are thriving at smaller schools like SFA, SHSU, etc.. Hell, Tech just needs MORE sororities and a greek row 3.

Where on Earth would that go though?

seriously, not to mention Texas State and doing fine at A&M. Couldn't Greek row 3 just go in the bigass empty field behind Greek row?

All the current groups at Tech are the strongest nationally and at all the schools with strong greek systems...the next strongest nationally would be Gamma Phi Beta then Phi Mu then AOPi. DZ is great for smaller schools like Texas State, SFA, UH, etc. but probably wouldn't do as well at a big school because they don't have the name recognition.

You don't know what you're talking about (shocker for this site I know) Phi Mu is top tier at a lot of the very strongest Greek schools in the US like Alabama, and Delta Zeta and other sororities are also big at a lot of top Greek schools, just not in Texas. I swear it seems like Texas girls think the only strong sororities nationally are the ones at a couple of the big schools in the state.

is exactly why DZ might have a hard time at Tech. Unfortunately, most Texas girls want the "big" Texas groups if they have a choice: KKT, KAT, PiPhi, XO, DDD, ZTA...if they don't get those, at least they've heard of DG, ADPi, APhi, AXO, KD and GPB so those do ok in Texas too. Phi Mu is definitely big in the SEC but I've never heard of a top tier DZ chapter but i'm sure they're out there.

DZ is the second largest sorority nationally, much stronger than GPhi. Plus, locally it has top chapters at Texas A&M and Texas State

who would want to join a sorority that just started? they'd have to accept like anyone who wants in...the whole point is being selective and picking classy girls

Not with the 1000+ rabid baby-Freshmen that want in to 10 sororities.

The number of girls going Greek grows every year. I don't see that changing any time soon. If the trend continues, expect to see PC's getting close to 100 girls. That's way too big for Tech. A new chapter would be great. Yes, probably it would fall to the "bottom tier" right away because it is unproven, but those girls would have the ability to build it up over time and forge a strong sisterhood.

I would want to see GPhi here. Their house use to be the house owned by FarmHouse. Nationally wise they are the next one to go with.

To bring back a sorority that folded here already. Is Tech really that much bigger than Texas State? It is not the SEC.

By: Crazy
by: Tech isMar 2, 2013 12:19:50 PM

actually a smaller school than Texas State slightly, but it has bigger percentage in Greek life, and the sororities that folded in the past probably folded before formal rush worked like it does now. They would probably do fine as long as more girls were rushing than could fit in the available houses.
