sororities

by:

Philanthropy is really important to me when I join a sorority. Which sororities are known to be more involved and passionate with theirs and which aren't? I have an extremely open mind I'm just wondering. Thanks!

i believe all the sororities are involved in their philanthropy. but there are some where its harder to be hands on, but there are many that are hands on. for instance; my Chi O friend is a wish granter for their philanthropy. but I have another friend who, their sorority mainly just raises money and awareness to their cause! idk its all different- hopefully on the first 2 days of recruitment you'll be able to see which girls truly care for their philanthropy

All chapters offer plentiful philanthropy opportunities in both time and finances. It's up to each member to choose how and how much to get involved.

Chi O is very involved and hands on with Make a Wish, but so are a lot of other sororities! Just ask around during rush to see which best fits you!

I'm not sure why but the sororities who have a philanthropy tied to cancer always put on more events and seem to be way more involved. These sororities are chi o, tri delt, and zeta. Aphi and axo are also pretty involved with theirs. I honestly don't see pi phi, kappa, theta, adpi or the others doing much with their philanthropy which is sad... but that doesn't mean there's not other good things about those chapters!

Chi o on these boards like flies on ....
Can't change snap bid history.

All the houses are philanthropic. All of them. They all have events to raise awareness & $. They all have volunteer opportunities we all aren't aware of. (News flash that's part of being in a private organization.)

If this is important to you no matter where you end up you will have many opportunities.

Agree that all the sororities do volunteer work behind the scenes so it's more than just raising money with an event! You can never really tell how passionate an entire chapter is about something, especially not from recruitment. It's all up to you about how much you want to get involved! So I would really choose which philanthropy you're most drawn to and not so much about how passionate the girls seem about it!

Bottom line, the sororities control the selections at recruitment, not you. So you will be offerred a bid from a chapter and need to participate in that house's philanthropy. Things like this prevent you going in with an open mind. Too many pnm's drop out of recruitment because their "favorite" house cut them. Stop doing this. Just go through the process, and you will learn about what your sorority has to offer.

agree with tttttuuuuuuu. Don't worry about the philanthropies, or houses, or colors or ranks. You really have very little say in which house you'll join.

I think it's really cool that you're passionate about philanthropy! What everyone has been saying is mostly true, in every sorority you'll have opportunities to do hands on things, you'll have opportunities to donate, to fundraiser, etc. It's up to you to take those opportunities.
My advice is to have a list of specific questions to ask on philanthropy day, you can ask the girls you're talking to about what their chapter as a whole does, what individual opportunities there are, how much money was raised, etc. Think of questions you want to ask and you'll be able to hear firsthand what the sororities do, this way you can judge for yourself (because let's face it, greekrank is a little too biased). Having questions will also make you seem more prepared and interested, so it's a win-win! Good luck!
