spring sorority rush sophomore year

by: Techyyy

Hello! I currently live in Lubbock but am going to classes online at a community college. I really, REALLY want to rush in the spring when I will be attending tech, but I don't know much about the process. Would I be able to participate in spring rush even though I wasn't a student this semester? Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Y'all have a great rest of the semester :)

1) get great grades while taking community college classes.
2) if you know any girls in any chapters that would be helpful.
3) let panhellinic know you're interested in spring rush
4) do community service work. Anything that will make you stand out.
5) very few houses do spring rush
6)keep your grades up in spring also & get to know people in case spring rush doesn't work out for you
7) get reccomendations for any/all houses. You may think you want Xyz house before going thru recruitment only to find its not for you. Which brings me to,
8) have an open mind. Stuff you read here is only someone's opinion not fact. No one here knows what goes on at all the houses and personal vendettas against this or that house is rampant here.
Good luck!

Tech does not have a formal Spring rush for sororities. Some bottom houses and MAYBE AXO or APhi or something would take a very small (like less than 5 people probably) spring pledge class. The girls that are taken in the spring are usually friends of in house girls because since it's informal it's just 100% word of mouth and who you know. If you were to rush next fall, in 2017, would you be a sophomore then or a junior then? If you are a sophomore and have good grades and meet people here this spring semester, you would probably do really well with rush as a sophomore in the fall. However, if you are a junior next fall, I wouldn't set your expectations very high if I'm being honest with you. You might have some luck with AXiD because they are new. It's kind of a weird topic just because spring pledge classes are so small and many houses just don't take any at all. Hope this helps a little and definitely don't be discouraged because it will all work out how and when it is supposed to! (make some connections in the spring and keep your grades up!!)

Such crap. At one time or another, every house has participated in a spring rush. You have girls who transfer to other schools, quit or graduate. Those spots need filled and spring is a good time to do it. It has nothing to do with bottom or middle houses. But not every house does it every year. It just depends...

To the person above:
You are correct in saying that people graduate, drop, get kicked out, etc. However, most chapters at tech are strong enough financially to avoid having to fill those spots immediately, so they wait until the fall for convenience purposes. Also, it is kind of looked down upon for a top or even middle house to take a spring pledge class so most avoid it if they can. It's just how things work here.
