When Tech first started they were very conservative and did not want young women living in unmonitored housing. When Sororities and fraternities came along only a small area was given to build a club house for these groups.

Later it became a question of the university and local chamber of commerce not wanting to compete for lodging dollars, I mean realize the apartment complexes around here are set up like dorms and you can even "pot luck" roommates at these places.

Now it's just become part of the way of life for Greeks and not a lot of motivation to change

Most girls who have "lived in" during their sorority years will tell you they could barely handle more than a year of it. Many of the big SEC schools have gorgeous houses that only a few will actually get the chance to live in. So Tech's lack of big houses is not a big deal.

Small lodges & tents??? The sororities that have rebuilt are spending millions, yes MILLIONS, on the lodges they won't live in. Elevators, meeting room etc. that being said from a fraternity perspective most houses don't party in their lodges. Mostly used for meeting space. If your looking to join an organization based on lodge size, sounds like you won't fit into Greek life here. We have beautiful lodges, some frats without lodges., and still have a better Greek system then Texas state or where ever you're from.
