rush system

by:

I was wondering why SCU doesn't have a rush like other schools do where instead of having to pref a house you are offered a bid after an invite only event? In that system you have choices especially if one of your choices doesn't want you. With SCU's system a lot of guys are screwed because you can basically only pref one frat and if they deny you that's it.

Honestly it really is stupid, it's basically like suicide rushing and leaves a lot of guys out in the cold.

Honestly SCU fraternities should change their whole pref system. Obviously it would work better for rushees, but I think it would work better for fraternities as well. There seems to be a big divide between top, middle, and bottom tiers here, as most of the guys in mid-tier fraternities didn't think they could get into a top one and the bottom tier fraternities don't really get many prefs. There are a lot of cool guys who get turned away from top tier houses who would be great members of a mid-tier one, and same goes for middle to lower tier houses. Rush is supposed to be about finding the best fraternity for you, and the current system kinda goes against this.

Also, unless you only choose to rush one house (which only makes sense for sophomores and people with siblings in fraternities), it's really hard to just choose one house to pref. Rush is only four days. A lot of them seem pretty similar from the outside and that's the perspective you're getting as a rushee.

No, white I agree our rush system is stupid, it actually makes the gap between fraternity in different “tiers” smaller. Almost no one rushes a “mid tier” fraternity because they think they won’t get a bid at a “top tier”. That’s stupid af. People go to rush, find a house where they think they made friends and fit the vibe and rush them. If someone felt that at a “top tier” house they wouldn’t rush a “middle tier” because they’re afraid they won’t get a bid. Our current system works because you have all kinds of guys in each of the houses since a dude who is sick might rush a “mid tier” house because he felt like he met chill dudes there.

I wasn't saying that everyone rushing mid tier doesn't think they can get a bid at a top house, there are definitely some cool guys that join mid tier houses because they vibe more with them than the top houses. I'm just saying that a lot of the guys turned down from top houses are still fairly cool and social guys and could be great members of mid tier houses/help boost their reputation. Honestly a system where people get multiple considerations doesn't hurt anyone. The top houses would probably take the same guys, the mid houses would get more guys rushing them, the bottom houses would actually get prefs, and rushees wouldn't have to face the pressure of choosing one house to pref/would have options if their first choice didn't work out.

All of my friends that rushed mid tier this rush period all said they weren't going to risk rushing the top house/ didn't think they could get in. And it does increase the gap between houses. The top houses literally have no competition because the guys they reject can't go on to get a bid from the mid tier houses. Why do you think a frat like Pike has been top tier so long? The mid tier frats get people who thought they weren't good enough for a top house.

I agree the system needs to change like all
Other schools where you can pref a few frats and not suicide rush. Better for everyone. Too many great guys don’t get the fraternity they want. Who can make this change? Please do
It!

Also if you arent a pike you wouldn’t be trying so hard to convince me you aren’t. You wouldn’t care that much lol

IDK why a pike would care enough to post in this thread. A change in the pref system likely wouldn't affect them at all, they'd just take the same guys that they usually take. If anything, I'd think pikes would be against this change, as it creates extra work for them and has to potential to give them more competitive with other fraternities. These posts saying that some of the guys in mid-tier fraternities rushed there because they didn't think they'd get a bid at pike are in support of a change in the pref system. So, I don't see how this could be a pike.

It’s not about the pref system lol. I mean they’re commenting on like every post with something unrelated and discreetly “pro pike”. Like talking about how the system is bad cause everyone is “scared to rush pike cause pike is sooo good”. And with the amount you’re denying this you are definitely a desperate pike lmao 😂
