Message to current freshman: there’s gonna be a lot of you who’v had a great social life last quarter and you’re probably thinking “I don’t need to be in a frat. I party, hook up with girls and hang out with the boys all the time already”. Well that was me my freshman year (I’m a junior now) and let me tell you this. It all changes once winter rush happens. Every party in the winter and 90% of parties in the spring are mixers and “open” parties that are open only to girls. A lot of your guy friends will rush and won’t have any time to hang out while they’re pledging (and after pledging they’ll be closer to their fraternity brothers anyway). Oh and all the girls on your floor will be hooking up with frat guys... I finally rushed my sophomore year and it changed my life here so much. There really isn’t much to do in Santa Clara for people who like to have an active social life unless you’re in a fraternity. This is just my experience and the experience of many people I know. I’m just letting you guys know so you don’t make the mistake I did freshman year. No matter which fraternity you rush, as long as it’s the best fit for your personality you will not regret it.

And even when you do start seeing that cute girl from your floor, Friday night is gonna roll around and she’s gonna wanna go out with her friends. Problem is, you can’t go with her (cause you won’t be let in) but all the older frat guys can... put 2 and 2 together. This is why guys in fraternities on average have more friends and get with more girls. The fraternity lifestyle isn’t for everyone, but if that sounds like something you want you should at least attend rush and see if you find a fit

As a gdi sophomore who is rushing this coming week, I can say that there is definitely some truth to this. Winter quarter is particularly known for being brutal for gdi guys (almost no open parties after week 1), and even spring/fall quarter you will definitely have some Friday nights where you can't get in anywhere. However, as long as you have other gdi friends, talk to girls on your floor/in your classes, and have a fake so you can go to bars, your social life will be decent enough. Nothing beats throwing mixers and parties every week though, so if you want the best social life possible and can handle 3-4 months of an intense pledge process (not even that if you rush sig chi), then joining a frat is definitely the way to go

Yeah it's a bit of a trade off, easier pledging but less of a social life/brotherhood than the other frats. Still probably better than being a gdi though, at least you throw some mixers/ closed parties.

sig chi had more parties last year than TKE, but ya ok these comments are clearly not just trying to slander them before rush
