gpas for sophomore rush

by:

I'm a rising sophomore who's going to be going through Panhellenic recruitment in the fall (I didn't go through it last year). Will the fact that I didn't do it last year have any effect, and more importantly, how important are GPAs? I have a GPA above a 3.5, so is that desirable and to which sororities?

I rushed as a sophomore and the sororities I got dropped by on the first night make sense for me and my personality so I wouldn't say I was hard dropped for being a sophomore. That being said its all about how you sell your freshman year. Sororities are going to be looking for things you did that will bring value to the chapter (whatever it is they value) and probably expect a bit more from you because you've been here for a year. Your gpa will definitely help regardless because all chapters would want to make their gpa higher especially for sororities who are known for that kinda thing like sk and adpi

I've been told that some sororities are staunchly against taking sophomores, but I know a girl this past year who was a sophomore and went kappa. Plenty of girls rush as a sophomore here, so I don't think you'll be at a huge disadvantage. As far as I can tell, you're above the minimum GPA for all the chapters that set one in the recruitment look book, and I agree, it will definitely help you!

which sororities are staunchly against taking sophomore? I'm keeping my mind really open through this whole rush process, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a few in mind. I'm leaning towards sk, chi o, and aphi, so would being a sophomore really destroy my chances with any of them?

I don't think aphi takes sophomores but you can try. I know DG does. Not sure about Chi O, but I feel like they would. Aephi does. SK probably not. Kappa yes.

SK, Chi O and ADPi all take sophomores. Not a ton, and you'll still have to be cute/smart/involved but it's definitely possible

SK took a bunch of sophomores! I know about 5 that were sophomores in SK. APHI took a few sophomores as far as I'm aware

I did this last year! I was a sophomore who didn't go through recruitment as a freshman, and I had a 3.9 at the time. I don't think GPA matters to sororities as far as, if they want to take you they will but your GPA won't make or break the difference. Chi O I heard has the most rigorous GPA requirement, and they dropped me first night. I found a chapter that I love, and it wasn't one of my first choices at the time, but I'm lucky to have found somewhere (as the other 4 sophomores in my PRC group were all dropped by everyone). Is it harder as a sophomore? Definitely, so be aware of that going in and you'll be okay

the fact that you mentioned that all the sophomores who were in your PRC group were dropped by everyone worries me A LOT

I was in your shoes last year. All sororities can take sophomores it's a matter of if they want to. Your GPA is solid and if you sell your freshman year well then you will make a connection with the right sorority for you. I'll be honest.. you will get dropped early on by those that just aren't a good fit, but it will be okay. I ended up in a sorority whose stereotype made me think I would never fit it. I was so wrong! I love my sorority and my sisters are my best friends so definitely keep an open mind!
