GW will advertise that Greek life makes up 30% of the student population, but they take that percentage including the freshman class BEFORE the freshmen get a chance to rush--so the percentage is totally inaccurate. GW doesn't want a huge Greek presence to deter prospective students. The Greek life scene at GW is way larger than you'd expect from a mid-atlantic, liberal, urban school, and this is something you should definitely know as an incoming student. A lot of the freshmen this year didn't know how big the Greek community was until they started school :(

I've heard it's somewhat hard to party as a non-greek student, but non-greek girls can party, go to clubs, and get into open frat parties. Non-greek boys have a harder time, because fraternities that you're not a part of won't let you into their parties unless you have multiple friends in that fraternity. You can still go to clubs though if you can pay the cover (usually cheap-ish) and party in your rooms.

THAT BEING SAID-Greek life is AMAZING at GW. A ton of people have preconceived notions about frats/sororities based on what they know from TV or the media. A lot of people also compare the intense Greek life at southern & public schools to greek life everywhere else, whereas in reality it varies with each college. Greek life at GW, while still rooted in tradition, is liberal, diverse, and progressive. There honestly is an organization that will fit each and every student. Go greek, and go GW!! (in that order)
