how important is clothing for rush

Wear something you already own. If what you already own isn't good enough for a chapter, that's not a chapter you'll fit into. I know too many girls who acted fake in rush to get into a good chapter, then found that they hated it and quit. You are much better off in a middle tier (or even bottom tier) where you are happy than a top chapter that you fake your way into.

I am biased. On my pref night, I had to choose between a top tier that everyone glamorized and a mid tier I actually loved. My friend was in the same position. I chose the mid tier and am now obsessed with my chapter. She chose the top tier and dropped after a year because it wasn't the right fit for her and she didn't legitimately make friends with them.


Look nice, but don't buy anything new.

Don't over stress it. I have a friend who thought rush was a joke and intentionally wore the wrong outfits each day - she wound up in Alpha Phi. She got in because she is an amazing girl, not because of her outfits.

If you want to convey that you are a really preppy person, wear preppy clothes. Some chapters will like this, others will think you are trying too hard. So wear what you like and the ones that like you back will ask you back. Don't fake the way, that's how you wind up miserable later.
