rushing as a sophomore

by:

Hi Everyone,
I'm a current freshman thinking about rushing a sorority next year. I know a lot of girls who are in sororities and it seems like they always have something to do and are always out and lets face it, greek life is where the guys are at. My only problem is I'm worried about girls being fake and catty... I don't do well with drama and have pretty much been a "guy's girl" my whole life. Also I know its really expensive. So I guess my question is is it worth the money? Also what sororities have the least drama/most genuine sisterhood?
The ones I'm interested in are:
Sigma Kappa
Chi O
Kappa Kappa Gamma
Is it much harder to get bids as a sophomore?

I know these are really broad questions but any advice/comments/experiences you can share would help aton!

Thanks!!

It is much harder to get a bid as a sophomore but if you're cool it really doesn't matter too much.

If you really want to rush go for it. Just know they're gonna be looking at you much closer than everyone else. Grades are the biggest thing. If you don't have the gpa, you'll be automatically dropped. Tons of sophomores rushed this year and got bids, it depends on what the chapter is looking for

You don't need to be in a sorority to be close to guys in the frats. Plenty of girls are really close with frat guys without being in one. Just go to their parties with your friends and you'll meet them.

It's totally worth the money and to at least try it! I've found my best friends through my sorority and you can even apply for scholarships if money is an issue! I really wouldn't go into recruitment with houses in mind because you'll be surprised where you might fit in :) If you are not open during recruitment it can really be a lot more difficult. For sophomore the only downside is your GPA must be higher (or above the sororities minimal GPA) as freshman start with a clean slate they have less to look consider when seeing if you will fit in! Not a big issue if your personality shines bright but it is another factor to recognize. As far as the cattiest issue goes; every sisterhood is different so I can only speak for my own. My best bet is that if you are not a catty girl you won't end up in a catty house :) Best wishes!!

Okay you shouldn't join a sorority if you aren't ready for catiness. There will be a lot of it in ANY sorority. Sororities at GW must have 160 girls minimum right now, drama is bound to happen. Having said this for me my sorority experience has proven worthwhile because of my sorority family. I wish sororities were smaller there would be a lot less drama. I pay my own dues and I will continue to pay them because I have gotten so many positives out of this experience. I met amazing people that I probably would have never met and my sorority has provided me with a lot of wonderful opportunities including my current internship.

Also you are interested in the top tier sororities which creates a few issues:
1.) As a sophomore it will be harder to get into a the top tier sorority
2.) you're trying to avoid being catty.... the top tier has the most catiness. Not only are there internal issues but also issues with trying to beat the other top tier sororities to be the top.
3.) Honestly most drama free is probably Phi Sig. They're ranked really low but they really don't seem to care, they seem to be happy with themselves, I really respect them for that. The middle tier sororities such as KD and PiPhi will also have less drama than the top tier.
