fraternity spring rush-2014...

by:

Which frats are doing spring semester rush in Jan/Feb?

For the frats that are taking people, how large are they anticipating their PC's to be?

Which top frats are the best to hopefully get a bid from in the spring?

Any thoughts and comments would be appreciated.

Most fraternities look for much smaller pledge classes in the spring. For the fall, the top tiers like Phi Psi, Sig Ep, Sigma Chi, Pi Kapp, and other good frats recruited about 20-25 guys. Next semester they will probably recruit around 7-10. The only one I'm not too sure about is PIKE with there MIA pledge class. If you want a good chance in getting into a pretty good fraternity check out the middle tiers.

Pi Kapp and Sigma Chi are very easy to get into and not top tier. They take 10-20 kids in the Spring usually. Phi Psi, Pike and Sig Ep are more selective and harder to get into, taking 7-10 guys. People claiming sigma chi and pi kapp above pike don't really have a clue. pi kapp and sigma chi lose to pike almost every single time (that is a fact and not debatable) in sports and their parties aren't as good. Pike is definitely slipping though and had an awful pledge class. Personally I would recommend checking out pike phi psi and sig ep. Phi psi and Sig Ep got the best fall pledge classes and have historically been top. Phi psi is more laid back fun guys and sig ep is more douchey, bro athletic guys (you'll know if you fit in there right away). Every fraternity mentioned in this post is popular with different sorority girls. Pike/Phi Psi are popular with DG, Aephi and Kappa, Sig Ep popular with Alpha phi/DG/Sk, pi kapp and
Sigma chi popular with SK/Adpi/Alpha phi. Chi O mixes with all the above frats.Hope that helps.

Are you taking this year off or something? You're soooo wrong

Defending Pike after their lovely drop sesh this semester is pointless. No one cares if they bounce back because the only people who like Pike are DG's and Pikes. And it's not hard to get a bid from any fraternity at GW as long as you fit in. If you're athletic and fairly normal then congratulations - you've got a bid to the "top tier frats". This isn't SEC greek life. If one fraternity has better parties than others it's by a very marginal amount. You don't need to go on Greekrank to ask these dumb questions. Just rush.

Pi Kapp got a better PC than Phi Psi.

Pike is still top but got a really bad PC this year. They hang out with every sorority except pi phi/sdt/phi sig. Sig Ep I would argue is top 2 with Pike and might even be better than Pike. They are pretty exclusive with alpha phi (the top sorority) but do branch out to other sororities occasionally. Phi Psi is top 4 and they are pretty into KKG. Pi Kapp got a great PC this year even though they used to be middle tier, it's clear now that they're top. They mix with all the sororities, especially SK.
For what it's worth, Kappa Sig and Sigma Chi round out the top 6 but they're more upper mid than top. They hang out with top sororities and also mid tier ones like ADPi and KD. Also there is aepi but I've never been a fan of them. They just obsess over aephi.

Yes, but I was asking about the numbers for each....

for example:

Pike- 8 guys
Phi Psi- 6 guys
Sig Ep-....
AEPi-.....
etc.

Could someone provide me data from last year?

The numbers really don't matter because for the most part the spring guys are friends of the guys that rush in the fall. If they want you, you'll get in and you'll know because they'll be trying hard to get you to come to their events. The fraternities that do well in the fall generally do well in the Spring AEPi, and Sig Ep generally take pretty small spring classes, Pi Kapp and Sigma Chi take big spring classes. Phi Psi and Pike are somewhere in between. This year I think Sig Ep, AEPI and Phi Psi will probably take 7-12 guys. Pike will take more because of their fall class' small size. Pi Kapp and Sigma Chi let just about everyone in. I got a bid at Pi Kapp and didn't even go to their invite night if that gives you an idea.

OK! Which frats will be competitive to get into this Spring? I think Sig Ep was the most selective of them all in the fall...

Honestly don't understand these Sigma Chis and PiKapp "take big classes" they don't, they both take around 10, and have done for the last 2 years.

You really have no idea how easy it is to get a bid there because you've never rushed. You can get invited back to their events while barely showing up for the open nights. You can get a bid without even going to their final nights. Normally it is around 15 each for those two. Pike even takes around that number sometimes and will probably for sure aim there this Spring to get their numbers up.

I mean the gap isn't that big if you throw out the window pike has won 6 of the last 8 pikus cups and pi kapp has done nothing. That and the fact anyone can get into pi kapp.

I don't think he's talking about a gap in athletics. Just the overall experience of being in one top fraternity vs the other.

Pi Kapp has done nothing to be considered a top house... the experience? What are you even talking about? Their pledge process sucks. They've done/do nothing. Please. No one in the fraternity scene considers Pi Kapp to be a top house.

Yes, Pikes pledge experience was so good, 50% of their pledges couldn't take it anymore!

Just from an outsiders perspective: I don't get how everyone has insight on each fraternity pledge process? And yeah, as a freshmen, the only one I feel like I can comment on is Pike's seeing as how I know a lot of the kids who dropped.

If you lived in thurston freshman year and had friends/roommates in other fraternities. Or if you pledged it and dropped because it sucks.

That they're lost rush (Every other top frat), they're losing parties (Phi Psi and AE Pi) and they're losing pikus (to Pi Kapp)

Whose house? Oh word, I-House...

Pi Kapp came in 6th in Pikus last year. Behind Sigma Chi even. The only big sport that has been played so far is football, which Pike won. Wiffleball and Volleyball are kind of a joke. Once soccer, basketball and hockey have been played then we'll see. Pi Kapp has won literally none of those things in recent memory.

Anyone who posts about Pi kapp taking anyone is living in the past and needs to look at the reality of them becoming one of the best houses here especially as Pike falls Phi Psi continues to get into trouble and Sig Ep remains douche bags. Probably more accurate for Sigma Chi though.

Phi Psi, PiKapp, and Sigep will definitely be the fraternities that get the big rush crowds come Spring. In my opinion those are the top fraternities right now (socially.. I don't follow Pikus) so there's going to be competition for bids. I'd guess they'll give anywhere from 10-15 bids. Usually nationals has a say in how large the class size is but I know fraternities don't always have to follow a quota. In the fall, with fraternities, if you fit in, you're generally pretty set. The spring may be a bit more of a challenge. That being said, if you don't feel you fit in with those three try rushing the other ones. Just because we only hear about the top 4 on this site doesn't mean the others are completely irrelevant.

Phi Psi and Sig Ep have finally put an end to PIKE'S #1 status. Phi Psi in particular has teamed up with AEPi and Sig Ep to make PIKE events less relevant and attractive. Sig Ep may be the new #1 house but Phi Psi is close behind and gets along with them just fine. Then come Pi kapp, aepi and sigma chi at upper/mid level.

Is basically just a less athletic and talented version of Pike that is easier to get into.

You could not possibly be any more wrong. The Pikes and PiKapps are absolutely nothing alike and hang out with much different crowds.
