rushing spring semester? sorority recruitment
by: ChiTownLovin
Hi guys! This is my first post on here
Im a sophomore transfer at GWU - this is my first year. I didn't rush this semester bc I really didn't know about it and I never got into the whole "sorority' and being a "sorority girl" thing. However, being here has definitely opened me up and now I really want to do it and regret not rushing this semester. I have always felt out of place and want a sense of belonging and be a part of a sisterhood.
I am thinking about joining DPE - the professional foreign service sorority but Ive heard professional ones are completely different to social ones.
Can someone give me tips on spring recruitment and rushing spring semester? Im interested in APhi, ADPi, and KappaSigma. What about rushing next Fall, my junior year?
And what about rushing DPE and a social sorority at the same time next semester?
Thank you!

APhi doesn't take sophomores/juniors/seniors, like ever, so count them out. I personally would not rush ADPi, they're going downhill reallyyy fast and just aren't very nice or fun (doubt theyre doing spring rush anyway). Sigma Kappa is a good choice (and they may do spring rush), not sure if they're willing to take a junior though.
Don't know a whole lot about DPE but I'm pretty sure there are many girls in it that are also in panhellenic sororities as well so you can definitely do it.
But have a bit more of an open mind when it comes to the panhellenic sororities, dont just consider the 3 you listed.

Cool! Thanks! What is spring rush like? Do you mind shedding some light on the process for that? Am I at a disadvantage for being a transfer? I mean loads of people transfer, most in junior year, isn't that unfair that some sororities just do freshmen? I'm a sophomore but suppose these SK or APhi doesn't do Spring Rush then Id have to wait until Im a junior...

It's going to be hard to join one as a junior. I would contact panhel to find out which are spring rushing and how you can sign up- some could be invite only which Alpha Phi and Kappa Delta have done so you'll need a sister to invite you. Others like Delta Gamma and Phi Sig have done open house where anyone can go. Spring rush is just casually chatting with the sisters basically and they decide if they like you. Open your mind up to whichever ones are spring rushing or you'll likely end up disappointed.

A lot of chapters have transfers in them so I wouldn't worry about that at all. Out of the ones you mentioned, I highly doubt they are doing spring rush, I know APhi and SK are 100% not doing spring rush though. Alpha Phi doesn't take in transfers or anyone that isn't a freshman so they're probably out of the question for you. SK has several transfers in their current PC, but like I said they aren't doing spring rush, but you should for sure rush in the spring and then you can see which ones are a good fit for you!

You really made a big mistake not rushing this year. But honestly, keep an open mind- you have no idea if SK is really the right one for you. And even if you like them, that doesn't mean they will want you. Don't be close minded. Later in the year it will be announced which are spring rushing and you should go to each house and see if it's right for you! Don't write anyone off, even Phi Sig has its merits.

Girlfriend SK is top tier, they have to want you too, it's not just that you want them they have to want you too. Don't go into it only thinking one sorority and end up disappointed. Go through it you may end up in phi sig or pi phi or aspire or sk. If you go already thinking you know what you want, you may not find the right fit,
