minority rushing panhellenic
by: pnmi am originally from the south so i have seen a lot of my friends go through recruitment from sec schools and i worry over the lack of diversity within the sororities there, because of this i am a little bit self conscious about being a minority and i was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to overcome this (especially with the recruitment process) or is a minority who has gone through the process

Hi there! I represent a minority population on campus and am a part of Greek life. I can honestly say that GW gives a different vibe that southern sororities. It acts more as a club rather than something very serious/catty. I have found that yes, the community lacks some diversity but I think it is representative of a national problem with Panhellenic rather than a GW specific problem. I and other minority sisters in my chapter have really enjoyed our experience so far, apart from the incident last year with one specific chapter. Hope this helps!

I completely agree with much already said. As a PoC from the south, I felt the same way. It’s true, the only way sororities will diversify is if more PoC joining them (which of course sororities being predominantly white need to provide a space in which we want to be a part of). I have never felt out of my place in my sorority, and know many girls in other sororities who have felt the same way. If you think a sorority won’t want you because you’re a PoC, maybe that one isn’t for you. But don’t worry, there is still a place for you.
