One girl lapses judgement, and people go apeshlit crazy. Why not hold adult discussions with these sorority members and let this be a learning lesson for all Greek members that "Words Matter". A candid conversation together is what helps to heal racism and open the eyes of those that do not think before speaking.
Racism is due to lack of empathy, communication, experiences in a diverse envoronment and understanding of other cultures. It takes more than throwing diversity training at people. You must spend time talking through issues and getting to know people that are diffetent than you. Everyone is a product of the environment that they are raised in. Open and honest communication and learning goes both ways. It sounds like these girls need exposure to other races and empathy towards those people.
Attacking an entire organization is easy to do and cowardly. Take the high road and Step up to assist with a solution to the problem, which is much more admirable than slamming an entire organization.
I hope that this makes people of all races look at how they can enlighten people on how the words said matter and hurt to an entire race. This is an educational facility, so educate and quite the hate!

While we don't know the sanctions the chapter will have to face yet, Alpha Phi announced this morning (after deleting their facebook, reopening it to make an apology, deleting their facebook/apology again, and reopening their facebook for a second time), that the 3 girls involved are being kicked out. Wonder how they'll find a place to live...

A girl holds a puece of fruit over her head and announces she is black...but everyday, you turn on the TV and hear the African American community call each orher the "N" word and that is acceptable to the African American community and anyone else listening. Does anyone else see the hypocracy in that? We are surrounded with the "N word in the black community, in lyrics by black musicians and people flip out over this? Perhaps the African American community also needs to take a look at the word choices in the media, amongst themselves etc... that perpetuate attitudes and influence in other races. Racism is everywhere and it takes every person learning and participating in candid discussions. Pointing fingers at dumb white girls that used no common sense does not alleviate the root cause of the issue.
You are in a learning institution, make change happen. Do the root cause and figure out a solution to help combat racism instead of whining and fingerpointing at a couple stupid sorority girls that didn't think before flapping their lips.
