four chapters will participate in COB this year. Here's some food for thought on this:
One of the chapters participating in COB will be Kappa. They're historically ranked one of the top 3 chapters here, but are said to be falling. DG also participated in COB a few years ago, before they got their charter pulled. After that happened, there was some dispute as to whether or not DG was still a top 2 chapter, but overall it didn't impact them.
This COB thing with Kappa can go one of two ways. Either it ensures in everyone's mind that they're falling, or it ensures in everyone's mind that COB doesn't equal being a bottom chapter, it just means having fewer members than the determined total, which is 118. We don't know how many new member spots Kappa has, and we also don't know how many/which chapters also have fewer than 118 members and elected not to participate in COB. So if you're a sophomore looking to join greek life, don't immediately write off chapters doing COB, because there's a whole lot we don't know.

definitely kappa and theta. unsure of who else. also I'm also not sure if what theta's doing is technically COB or more of a semi-structured informal recruitment like Phi Sig has done in the past, presumably because they have many more spots to fill.

how do we find out about events for KD and KKG? I've seen Theta and Phi Sig post their events on facebook but haven't seen anything about the other two and I'm interested in checking out those groups

Phi Sig and Theta have open events to bring in higher numbers, Kappa and KD have invite-only because they might need fewer

If you're interested in KD/Kappa, email their heads of recruitment and ask about events! While you may get a negative response unless you already know girls in the house, it can't hurt to ask them.

for any freshmen PNMs reading this, please also be sure to give all chapters an equal chance when formal recruitment comes around in the spring. this thread clearly shows that just because a chapter is taking a couple of girls in the fall doesn't mean they're a bad chapter by any means!

AEPhi may be doing a closed COB- so only extending bids to girls already friends with them and not anyone else. Kappa, KD, Phi Sig, and Theta are open to anyone I think.
Also, I think Theta extended 9 bids- if you see the picture, one of the actives is holding a sign for a new member so I think they extended 9 and 1 girl couldn't make it to bid day.

honestly surprised Theta extended that many. For a new chapter during informal rush thats not awful.

that's literally not how COB works. Panhel determines total, which is usually the average chapter size or the median, meaning half the chapters will likely be below that. the chapters doing COB will not be inherently bad, just smaller than the determined total. Theta will likely be doing COB and should be considered for any transfer.
