disaffiliate worth it ?

by:

Im not particularly happy in my current chapter and it doesnt seem like the best fit for me. After the news of a new sorority colinizing on campus, I was wondering if it would be possible to disaffiliate from my chapter and join the new one coming to campus? Would that be rude or should i continue to give my chapter a chance?

unfortunately, once you disaffiliate from a social sorority, you cannot go through Panhel recruitment again for any other social sorority. disaffiliating is a permanent decision so i would recommend that you see how you feel after a few more weeks.

It kinda depends on if you've been initiated or not. You can go through recruitment again if you've accepted your bid but not initiated, but only after one calendar year. So, the new sorority colonizing won't be available to you until the fall. However, if you have been initiated, you can't join another Panhellenic sorority ever. Point blank. If you do decide to drop, it is a permanent decision, but there are many other groups on campus who have involevement and close bonds. But keep in mind that "the grass is always greener on the other side". It takes time to find your niche in your chapter, so put your 100% effort into it, give it a few weeks, and drop before initiation if you really can't feel it.

As for whether or not it's rude: yes, it's really rude, especially if you get a big who gives you lots of love and presents, and if you say something like "I dropped XYZ sorority to join ABC because XYZ sucked" or whatever. If you do this, give the presents back, explain how you thought colonizing would be a great opportunity, and be nice. Also, keep in mind that you're not guaranteed a bid to this new colony when you're eligible for their recruitment in the fall.

no, to be honest the general gist of sororities is the same across Panhel. If you don't like your current one, you probably haven't made a good enough effort to be social and open minded, go to all their events, and find your group of girls that you get along with best. if you're not happy here, you probably will not be happy in the new sorority, and probably won't get a bid anyway. If you've got a big already are thinking about disaffiliating, I have no words for how rude and horrible that is of you.
