Theta tries extremely hard to push back against everything the Greek community knows them to be. They freak out any time someone calls them "the new sorority" even though they've literally only been on this campus 2 semesters and haven't been through a formal recruitment. There's nothing inherently wrong with being new, and it can explain a lot of their behavior, because they're still trying to figure out what being greek on this campus really means. Prime example: the social media thing. They eventually took down those controversial posts because they realized it was a mistake, but learning how to run a chapter instagram is a new skill and they can blame their ignorance on being new at this. They also run around saying "we're not like other girls" rather than creating a unique identity, which is a rookie move, especially considering they're extremely basic. maybe with their new social media chair things will get better.

I have a close friend in theta and have met a bunch of other thetas through her and it's honestly a pretty mixed bag. They definitely have a lot of random girls who didn't fit into the "traditional" greek life scene at GW but I've also met a decent amount that seem pretty fun and normal. Their sisterhood definitely doesn't seem amazing at this point but they've done pretty well in terms of numbers considering they've only done informal recruitment at this point, and their fall pc looked decent overall. The upcoming recruitment will be huge for determining the direction they go in

Honestly I feel really bad for Theta. They just colonized in a time when greek life at GW is super turbulent, and I think that was really detrimental to their growth. I think that if they had colonized the year before or next year (fall 2018), they would have had stronger numbers and GW panhellenic as a whole would have had more time to dedicate to them, but now the focus is all on figuring out deferred recruitment. It's too bad.

honestly pissed bc they had so much potential but took mean girls who all hate each other. Only decent girls they had joined theta to transfer to another school as theta. really embarrassing.

Literally a joke. My friend in theta says that they are so clique-y already and it hasn't even been a year. Your sisterhood is a joke, like 6 people have disaffiliated already. You should probably work on that if you go out and promote your "strong sisterhood"

Theta seems to have a very wide variety of girls. Some are more involved/excited about Theta than others. All of the Thetas I have met so far have been nice and positive about Panhel which isn't something I can say about every sorority. It will be interesting to see how they do in formal recruitment in the spring because it's their first year but I definitely wouldn't say that they are the lowest sorority on campus.

So Theta took 88 girls with their first PC. If they only had 2 seniors graduate, and rumored 6/7 girls dropped or transferred, that puts them at around 80 girls at the start of this year. Judging by photos on their social media, they took 8 new members through COB. Total was set at 116 for the semester. Keep in mind, they're not under any obligation by GW Panhel to reach total, because some other chapters also aren't at total and have elected not to COB. Did 6/7 girls drop? Did they not extend bids to everyone who came to their events? None of us can know unless we're in Theta. However, this gets tricky with formal recruitment in the spring. RFM is based on historical return rates over the past four years, meaning the number each chapter is allowed to invite back each night is the average of their return rates for four years. Theta does not have any return rates, so they will have to invite back the maximum number of girls each night, which excludes grade risks but not much else. Quota in formal recruitment is based off of the number of PNMs attending prefs divided by the number of houses. If Theta's total is now at 88 and they don't extend any more bids this semester, they will need to extend far more bids than the other chapters to reach total. Between this and essentially needing to invite every PNM back each round, the next recruitment does not look bright for Theta.

They didn't offer bids to everyone that COB rushed but heard they have little say over who gets in and who doesn't right now because of nationals. COB class looks alright.

Has a lot of promise, but they lost a lot of girls at the end of last year and didn't recruit that many through COB. Their inability to recruit and rumored cliqueyness should be of great concern to any PNM who considers them.

Anyone else think it's weird how many girls are dropping/transferring out of theta? including some of their more prominent members, whether it be attractive girls leaving for higher ranked theta chapters at better universities, or girls who basically ran theta leaving? And they keep talking about not doing COB once they do spring recruitment, but if more and more girls keep transferring, how will they ever reach total?
