Are they on IFC? I’m confused

They are an IFC recognized colony, meaning they are restricted by the IFC with what events they can host and when they can hold their recruitment period. They cannot have mixers with sororities as that is only for IFC recognized fraternities, and they are only recognized as a colony.

I'm not in Kappa Sig but the whole colony process is obviously designed to discourage people from starting new frats and challenging the established ones

Actually its quite an easy process, just look at how many organizations have been started at UWO in the last 6 years. Its purpose is to discourage to an extent, but also verify that the organization is self sustaining and isn't being driven by an individual, that it can properly survive past 2 or three years.
