mandatory sorority events
by: ?
i want to join a sorority, but i heard that the time commitment is pretty serious for greek organizations, and that a lot of events are mandatory for members to attend. is that true?
And will i be fined if i can't make it to an event, even if its due to a serious reason like illness or school?

For any sorority time commitment is definitely a thing and there are lots of things that will be mandatory. Sororities want girls who are going to prioritize their sisters and their chapter's needs in addition to their own needs because it isn't fair to have girls who put everything into a chapter and some that only put effort when they feel like it.
Not all sororities hand out fines but there are a couple that do out of the 5 on campus!

Time commitment depends on the sorority, but during your new member process you will have weekly meetings which are mandatory, but other activities outside of this are more than likely optional.
Some sororities do fine and others don't, but they all have attendance systems that allow you to balance school with your sorority and other commitments. All sororities are accommodating and will understand if you can't make a certain event due to illness, but encourage your to time manage so that you can do school and make it to events. I wouldn't let the above comment scare you, what you put into the sorority is what you're going to get out of it. It's all about finding the right balance for you! Hope to see you at recruitment :)
