why do girls have to work so hard for sweetheart?

What I've noticed is that to win sweetheart you're competing fiercely with at least one other girl and spending BANK yet for guys to win sweetheart for a sorority they literally get a couple girls to make cookies for them to pass out at a meeting once and they are crowned

I'm not sure about other fraternities but everyone of our brothers would run through a brick wall to defend our sweetheart. You work hard to become sweetheart because you want to be apart of the brotherhood, you want to be respected and protected. It's an honor to be a sweetheart, sorority equivalents just aren't the same.

but then there are also frats who choose a sweetheart based on how many brothers the girl has hooked up with in the chapter with no extra effort whatsoever lmao

I think the case is different for all sororities, like this year we chose a guy who actively put an effort to get to know all of us and help us with our philanthropy stuff. But yeah it's definitely a lot different when running for a frat

It's simple, I think it means a lot more and it probably also has to do with the fact that there is more competition. In our fraternity everyone cares a lot for our sweetheart, I don't think sorority sweethearts matter quite as much but that could just be my perspective looking in from the outside

You only work as hard as your competition, you don't HAVE to work hard, but then again you won't win.

sweetheart is purely a popularity contest and one of 'fake-status'
it doesn't make you any better than anyone else really.. like you work super hard only to get obligated to help out with frat stuff more. Oh and you know alot of guys but it's really not that hype.

I don't think that's a fair presentation of all fraternity sweethearts. Some fraternities it may just be a most popular/hottest girl, but to some it's a genuine sign of appreciation and mutual respect between the girl and the guys. It is an accomplishment and to undermine the effort some girls put in is not fair.
