Sigma Delta Tau - ΣΔΤ Sorority at State University of New York at New Paltz - SUNYNP 2.2 When I started college, the first thought that came to my mind was trying out for a sorority. At first, I genuinely thought that it would be a great way to connect with girls, make friends, give back to the community and most of all find a sense of belonging. Initially, I rushed for Sigma Delta Tau which was one of the most popular sororities at New Paltz during both my Fall and Winter Semester. At first, it seemed interesting but also promising, which was an interest round. The girls were welcoming. They were the type of organization to make you feel special by complimenting you, finding things in common with you, and making you feel seen. It felt so promising and created the illusion of friendship. As the experience went on, the vibes went completely off the rails and I noticed a slight change in the next few recruitment rounds. For those recruitment rounds, they were announcing mixers with fraternities and less interest rounds. The next few events that weren’t fraternity related, were philanthropy events. When I went, I felt that something was off. It was how the girls true colors actually showed. They became very cliquey where they made others feel isolated, excluded from the group or made them feel like they don’t “fit the mold.” It was where their friendliness began to fade. It comes to show that the girls are self centered, manipulative, controlling, and naive. It started to feel out of place, more like you were unwelcome to be a part of their sisterhood. - They host 5 regular events and 3 philanthropy events on campus. - Their primary focus is on off-campus events which were social gatherings of 6 to 8 frat mixers and parties. The social gatherings were felt as participation to go to those events in order to be remembered or considered to join, regardless of one’s academic schedule or one’s mental health just so they can actually be your friend. Overall, this organization seemed to focus more on three things: partying, status, and maintaining their self image rather than giving back, loyalty, and sincerity. If you looked into this sorority and ever want to get recruited and for them to say “Welcome to SDT!” you would have to go to every party to make sure they remember who you are despite social media. This organization is so performative like they would only want to be your friend if it mattered for their role. Whenever you look at their social media page, you would think right away, “They seem so nice” or “I want to be a part of that!” But in reality, their social media looks scripted once you're inside. They also tend to not accept or invite girls from the Disability Resource Center which is a resource center for students that have disabilities both mentally and physically. This shows exclusion and ableism, which can make many girls of the DRC feel alienated or unseen in campus life. My point is that they see some of us have difficulty in socializing and don’t go out of their way to make it easier for us to fit the mold and be welcomed. While some are gonna agree or disagree with what I am saying, I strongly consider anyone to look beyond the mask and see how inclusive this sorority is. Just a follow up, don’t be fooled of what you see is true!

Sigma Delta Tau - ΣΔΤ Sorority at State University of New York at New Paltz - SUNYNP 4.7 I rushed sdt this semester and had such a fun time at their online events. many sisters reached out to me and I felt like I genuinely made connections. unfortunately I didn't get a bid, but I still had such a good time. they were kind till the very end, and personally called me to let me know. im definitely considering rushing them again next semester, and if not I still feel like I gained friends from this experience
