breaking the sec cycle, looking to join sorority
by: Southern girlAlright I'm going to keep this short and sweet. I'm a brunette cheerleader, student body VP HS senior. I think I have a pretty good chance of getting accepted. I want to join a sorority but I am not the typical southern, pearl wearing kinda girl that would even want to go to school, let alone be an SEC sorority. Recs are not a problem. I've heard a lot that not being blond and being from the south would really hurt my chances at any getting into a decent house on the west coast. Can anyone give me any honest advice on this matter?

Girl you are fine. I'm a junior and came from NJ. You don't sound intense or scary, just a high school senior who is very excited. I was too. You will find a great house and even if you don't their are people from all over the world to come here! I ended up in a great house and my sisters are amazing.

There are plenty of girls in all tier houses from the South! I would say the biggest difference with West Coast v. South is demeanor. Be yourself but don't be too traditionally sorority-ish, if that makes sense. We're pretty laid back and relaxed so maybe go for that a bit. You will be fine! Don't worry just focus on being yourself and finding girls you love!

This girl doesn't sound like SC material or someone who will get in a top house. Yes, there are plenty of girls from Texas in Kappa but this girl just doesn't seem to get it. She hasn't been accepted and probably doesn't have the grades to get in. Even if she did, her attitude is bottom tier at best. Please don't respond to her anymore and she will go away. I'm so sick of girls like her dreaming of coming to California and attending SC. It just isn't a realistic dream for everyone and best for her to stay where she is.

Honestly just use this site for comedy purposes. You will probably only get good advice perhaps 10% of the time. That being said, if you look good, are well put together, polite (not overly saccharine), and just classy. You'll be fine. That advice will help you be successful anywhere, including a sorority at SC. And if you don't have problem getting recs and you're wealthy that just helps you even more. Being from the South isn't going to hurt you as long as you aren't 'The Southern, everything is better in the South PNM', instead of the 'PNM who just happens to be from the South' if you know what I mean. I personally don't think there is anything wrong with you being Southern as long as you're not rude and abrasive about it. If anything it will just be one thing to help you stand out from most of the PNMs.
As for the trolls calling you a dumb bigot, well bless their hearts.
Good luck for the future and wherever you end up going through recruitment.
