are recs for sorority recruitment absolutely necessary? like will my rush experience be bad if I don't have them?

no they're not necessary at all. they help for sororities to know a little more about you but if you kill it during rush then it doesnt matter if u had a rec letter or not

Not at all! I got rec letters for some of the sororities but ended up joining a house I never got a rec for
