rush next year

by:

I'm from the south and am a legacy for 3 sororities at usc, KKG, Tri-Delt and Alpha Delta Pi. I know that in the south if you're a legacy you've basically gotten a spot in their pc. How much does usc take in the fact that i'm a legacy? Also would being from out of state hurt my chances for certain houses?

I am also from the South and I am in my legacy house at USC. It's an upper tier house and my legacy status alone was not what got me in. You also need to look very put together during rush, carry yourself well, be a good conversationalist, have a solid resume, have recommendation letters, and is possible have connections with actives beforehand.

Tri Delt and ADPi might be easier, because they are less selective than Kappa. (Still both excellent houses though.) At many chapters, being a legacy gives you a courtesy invite back to the second round, and you are put on their first bid list if you make it to pref. Between those rounds, it's on you to show the house that you would be a good fit for them.

Finally, being out of state won't affect your chances. USC is very different from most Southern schools where a big value is placed on in-state girls. There are girls from all over in all sororities. Sure, some sororities might have a large amount of California girls or Texas girls, but overall what state you're from is not going to hurt you.

I've read in a couple of places online that sorority recruitment at USC is the closest thing to 'Southern' rush outside of the South and Texas. And definitely the most competitive on the West coast. Is there any truth in that description?

Are there any chapters there whose culture is closest to a Southern sorority, or are houses at USC just too different to compare?

I am a legacy to a chapter at USC and I want to have the big school sorority experience, but my primary criteria for college is obviously quality of academics, hence my interest in heading out to Southern Cal.

I do think rush here is competitive, but not as much so as places like Ole Miss or UT where it's all about who you know and having girls in the house/advisors pulling for you. I came into USC with no connections and rush worked out fine for me, so in that sense I think it's less competitive.

All the houses have different personalities! I wouldn't say any are particularly "Southern" but when you go through rush you will get a feel for each chapter and see if what they have to offer aligns with what you're looking for in a sorority.

Best of luck to you both.

Thank you so much for your advice and opinion. So if a PNM was mentally/physically prepared for recruitment at say Georgia, Texas and LSU then, she shouldn't stress out too much over rush at USC?

Thank you once again.

Yes I would say you're fine, and probably even have a leg up if you're already familiar with how the rush process works. Just make sure you're getting recs next semester, continue improving your resume, etc. There is no need to worry about rush, just enjoy your senior year and I'm sure you will be fine at USC.

kkg cares about legacies but youre definitely not guaranteed a bid. dg dgaf at all. theta cares prob most of any house. tri delt and adpi, idk. at sc being a leg pretty much only guarantees you some extra attn and a ticket to house tours
