last bit of rush advice

by:

Let me be one of the first to welcome all freshmen girls who intend to participate in rush starting next weekend. Many of my sisters are already back in our house getting ready to meet you in next few weeks.

Rush may seem daunting but it's really more fun for you then it is for us already members. It takes up lots of our valuable time with practice and lengthy meetings to discuss the girls who want to join our sorority. Sorting through all the qualified girls is a difficult task and often we don't get to take all the girls we want to because of the archaic panhellenic quotas.

This will be one of my last chances to remind you not to settle for any old house just so you can join something. Nobody settled for SC and you shouldn't settle for a sorority. This is one of the most important decisions in your life and you shouldn't make a decision unless you are absolutely sure your choice is the right one for you.

The truth is that not every house is worth joining. Some should have been shut down years ago but our current rush system keeps these weak sororities on indefinite life support. I'm sure you'll figure out which houses are teetering on the edge and will not jump on board those sinking ships.

I'll leave you with this one last thought. You have one chance to get this right and it's never wrong to walk away from a bad deal.

Have a Great Rush!

This is horrible advice, please don't listen to it! All of the sororities at USC belong here. Just because one house may not be appealing to one person, doesn't mean it isn't the perfect fit for you. Each house has incredible women. You will not be settling no matter where you end up! Keep an open mind!

Perhaps you should follow your own advice and not take in so many so so girls (see 575 Productions website - Presents). You're making your own ship sink.

These are the kind of posts you'll be posting in 30+ years:
(by Ashamed Alumna, aka DG Alum Mom)

As an alumna of USC, a mother of a daughter who will be attending USC in the fall, and a proud lifelong member of Delta Gamma, I have to say that finding this site makes me feel ashamed. Several mothers mentioned it at our weekly book club last night [ON A FRIDAY NIGHT] and I have to admit that we laughed.

Don't settle in the name of panhellenic spirit. Go for the house that you know fits your beauty, brains, and personality.

Also, please do not take this as an attack on the lovely women in lower tier houses. I am sure they have found great success in their lives after college.

However, while there is nothing wrong with being unattractive or socially awkward, it is just a fact that if you are either of these things, you aren't ever going to fit in with a top house.

This post is tragic. There is absolutely no way you are a psychologist.

Trust me, honey, I already have one. I have not been diagnosed with any personality disorder even after 10+ years of regular therapy, but perhaps you should go see one of your peers for a little checkup next week. I suspect pathological lying to be an issue in your life. Sorry you would never be accepted into my house! Tata!

This is terrible rush advice. If everyone followed this advice SC won't have a greek system in 10 years. Or, it will be a very lame one.

SC has a strong and thriving greek system. In order to have a strong, thriving greek system there needs to be multiple strong houses to choose from that have a lot to offer. Perhaps you don't get a bid from the house that you thought you wanted when you read Greek Rank. You should give the sorority you do get a bid from a chance. In reality, if you are a confident, articulate, friendly, creative, smart person you will make your mark in that sorority and continue to attract other like minded girls to your sorority.

I mean seriously. You got into SC because you have a lot to offer. Don't waste this opportunity and make college high school all over again. Make your mark!

Aim low and you will never be disappointed.

Don't aim low. Aim for a sorority where you can be yourself.
