ashamed alumna (usc dg)

by:

I couldn't resist making a few points about Ashamed Alumna (USC DG alum).

Her superiority complex and need to only associate with attractive, wealthy and intellectual peers is usually indicative of narcissistic personality disorder. After reading her post, she does not come across as "intellectual" as she claims (it is very clear that she isn't a Harvard or Oxford grad), and her attractiveness and wealth are indeterminable just from a post. My guess is that she grew up in a fairly emotionally cold household where "pedigree" mattered more than who she was as a person. That is, being a kind soul who is understanding of the human condition was not emphasized in her upbringing. To compensate for not being objectively attractive, she put her energies into the superficial (clothes, hairstyles, makeup, etc.) and needed to associate with a group, such as her sorority, or her current circle of friends, to feel "beautiful." She thrives on external affirmations and associations. She never developed a comfort level within herself.

She also briefly mentions that her husband was in a fraternity of equal importance to hers. However, she is getting together with other "like-minded" ladies at a book club on a Friday night. Typically, husbands of women like Ashamed Alumna do not stay faithful and have affairs. And typically, these wives look the other way, because they are handcuffed to their lifestyles and social circles. Eventually, they make their way into my office.
