If a girl was to go into the Residential Honors Program (you skip your senior year of HS and go to USC) and wanted to rush her sophomore year, would that increase or decrease her chances at a good house? One of the only restrictions on RHP students is you can't rush until second semester so I would wait until sophomore year.

RHP was a great program for me, so I say go for it. As far as Recruitment goes, I would suggest you make friends, be social, and then you will have "ins"/ advocates, to the houses you may like to join. I will say that houses prefer freshmen, bc then they have the members/dues for 4 years instead of only 3 or two. Given how selective in admissions USC is now, if you're cute you won't have a problem in any event.

RHP was definitely the right choice for me and I encourage you to do it too! There's no requirement saying you can't rush your freshman year (2 girls in my year did) and I would REALLY recommend rushing freshman year. I rushed as a sophomore and definitely saw that knowing girls/recommendations did not help as much as I hoped.

When I did RHP, the "rules" were definitely that you couldn't rush first year. So those girls who rushed anyway likely broke the rules. Not cool in my opinion, but seems lots of ppl break rules these days, which is unfortunate.

One of the great things about RHP is if a class is "closed," you can get into it-- whoever is in charge of RHP these days can likely see to it. So you don't have to go crazy trying to sign up for a bunch of classes on the lottery, seniors first, etc. etc. system and you get shut out of classes you want. Good luck! Go for it!

For the person who said 2 girls rushed their freshman year, how did they get away with that?
