sorority recruitment: letters of recommendation

by: Question

How important are letters of recommendation? I'm an international student and don't know any sorority alumnae. I've heard that for USC, letters of recommendation are crucial for recruitment. Will not having any letters put me at a disadvantage and hurt my chances of getting a bid? Should I try and get a letter from a teacher, employer, etc instead? Any advice is appreciated!

If you're really beautiful and have an outgoing personality, not having recs wouldn't hurt you. Some consideration is given to the daughters of former members of the sororities in some sororities. That said, a letter from a former member of the Ohio chapter of a sorority doesn't mean much to the USC chapter of the same sorority. So don't worry too much. If you're from abroad, they'll understand that you aren't going to have recs.

Honestly, letters of recommendation don't do much for you past day one. For many chapters, it gives more info on the girls coming in, but after the first cut on convo days, they really aren't taken into consideration unless its a legacy situation.
