rushing in the fall at 26
by: thinking about it
So I have lived overseas since I was 14 (long story). I'm now returning to the US at age 26 and will probably go to USC. My parents both went to SC and I"m a legacy to two sororities. I have a degree in another country, but I will be an undergrad and getting a Bachelors so I will be eligible to go through Rush. I would like to go through Rush but I don't want to be a big joke. I'm really wanting to join for reasons other then parties, but I would go to parties. Please only give serious advice. Do I have chance of getting a sorority? Will people think I'm a joke? Will there be other "older" ladies going through Rush ( I heard they do at several state schools)? Again any help would be nice.

To be honest, SC is tough as far as sororites are concerned, and really--you would be with a bunch of 18 & 19 year olds. 6 years isn't a big difference when you are in your 30's, but you are drastically more "mature" than most of the girls. I would suggest looking at clubs (drama club, service clubs, etc.) graduate clubs where the members will be closer to your age.

A lot of other schools don't have the hang up about age that we tend to have here. There are some HOTTIES that are older. I've never met "Old Blue" but I heard he is a legend. Would love to start getting a few more older cougar hotties into circulation. It would be good for diversity and good for morale. I say if you are feeling it you should join. You might not get a top teir sorority, but still join. If you are cool, people will like you. It is really common at other schools.
