rush is extremely superficial

I went into rush with a lot of eagerness and anticipation. I rushed Sigma Chi and SAE mainly, and wasn't invited back to either on Thursday. They said that I "wasn't the right fit." and "come by next semester" all the other b.s. the rush chair always says to the people they just don't want. Then, I took a look at the guys who got blue chips, and most of them weren't that impressive to me. They had very little personality. I feel like many get in based off of looks and certain connections, and this is all crap. The Greek system here is extremely vapid, vain, and shallow. This school sucks.

I'm sorry you didn't get a bid from your first top choices. It happens to most people who Rush, especially when everyone sets their sights only on top houses. That being said there are a lot of other houses to choose from and many I'm sure would feel lucky to have you. Check out secondary rush and some other houses, or rush again next semester. Rejection sucks more than anything but if you move past this I know you can find an awesome brotherhood.

Also, why do you feel that those two houses are "top?" I don't. They may have been good in 1983, but they really aren't now.

I'm just kind of bummed. I only want to do a really good house, because if you have to pay the same dues for all of them, I'm not gonna do a house that is inferior.

When I first read this, I felt bad for you. But now you sound like a baby. Get a life. There are loads of good organizations at this school. Who cares about a bunch of guys like that? They really aren't very good anyway.

Props to Hypocrite. "Disappointed" is just another self-entitled kid who is now whining because he didn't get what he wanted. And "Disappointed" is seriously misguided in thinking that all houses other than the two he wanted are "inferior."

You should probably stay a GDI as you aren't up to being in a top house let alone middle tier.

soooooo.......act like a big boy and try another house. It isn't really a big deal. Those aren't even the "top" fraternities. Maybe they were 40 years ago when your mommy and daddy went to University of Iowa, but they aren't that good here and now, so you aren't missing much. There are a lot better fraternities. Those guys are honestly wanna-beeees. Everyone around here knows it. In six months you will laugh at yourself that you wanted to join them. Try a different group.
