does sigma chi accept african americans?
by: newI'm from Newport Beach, and was interested in possibly rushing Sigma Chi, especially because a lot of Orange County people are in there. I am a little nervous rushing though because I'm black, and I don't know if they will accept that. It seems like a great house with a great tradition, but I don't want them to dislike me because of color.

as an SC mom that was on Panhellenic way back when.. I understand what new is trying to say. He was just asking a question....an honest one. He's not in the greek community yet. He thought he'd get an honest answer, but as we know, this isn't always the case here. And he got messed with and ultimately he doesn't have to defend where he lives or what his parents do for a living. He's not even rushing yet. If he's a great guy, he will do well in rush and where he lives or what his parents do for a living is just an added plus. My daughter is a junior in a top house. My freshman son won't be rushing til soph year. Hopefully new will have a good rush experience bc the guys he meets & joins will be his brothers for life. If it's Sigma Chi bc his hs friends are in there, that's great. If not, that's ok, too. Trust me even years past graduation, many of my sisters are all still close...good luck new!
