question about fraternities

I was at the bbq event yesterday and met a lot of the fraternities. The Pikes said that they were #1. I was wondering how they determine that? Are they the biggest? Or did they win the intramurals? How do I now if they are really a good house?

Pike is just coming back to the row this year after being off for a few. lets just say all of the sorority houses are very excited about it. i wouldn't say they are number 1 quite yet, but if they get a solid pledge class its possible. being #1 is just something that is known. there is not an equation or statistic to figure it out, its just kinda known among the girls
