which sororities and fraternities allow atheists?
by: Is religion necessary?
Hi, my brother and I are atheists (though not militant ones) and we wish to rush a fraternity and sorority respectively (I am obviously a girl.) I heard that some fraternities and sororities have initiation rituals that forbid initiations of atheists and require a belief in God, as many fraternities and sororities descend in terms of ritual from the Freemasons, who required a belief in god.
Are there any fraternities or sororities that do not require a religious belief? If so which ones? I would feel terrible if my brother and I pledged only to find out after months that we couldn't be initiated if we were atheists.
Thanks sooooo much ahead of time.

I had a similar issue with a fraternity. I did not want to perform the ritual as it used God's name in a way that was foreign to me so... a couple of things.
If you want to rush, be up front about what you've communicated here. They will be impressed by your knowledge of the Greek System. Still, it might be helpful to get something in writing saying you will not be required to perform the ritual.
And secondly... I think you mean agnostic. Everyone believes in something.

2. Atheism is chill. I consider myself somewhat of an agnostic myself.
