looks>sisterhood??

by: ???

I'm thinking about rushing a sorority this Fall, but I'm kind of questioning the greek life here. I'm transferring from a small school out of state and Greek life isn't as strong as it is at USC. Have been researching the different houses, but from what I've been reading the "top" are only top because they have more attractive girls but have bad sisterhood; the "middle" houses are doing whatever they can to move up the ranks, and the "bottom" houses have the best sisterhood but aren't as popular. Are looks the main thing girls look for in selection? Is this really what greek life is about? I'm definitely looking for strong sisterhood being a transfer and everything, but I'm not sure if this is what I want to do if this is all I have to look forward to.

Ya pretty true. If you want sisterhood, join adpi or tri delt or axo. If u are a top house wh"re, then join kappa/DG/theta/aphi. If u wanna have fun partying, join pi phi or DG. If u want a good reputation, join theta.

AXO or ADPi would definitely be the house for you if you're looking for sisterhood. Don't know any Tri-Delt girls so I can't speak for them, but those two are very well know for having the best sister bonding.

Dear rushee,

Don't fret about rushing. I'm not gonna lie, at times the greek system at 'sc can seem superficial, but please please PLEASE do not go off what you read online. Although some descriptions are spot on, others are just bitter and only a few people posting absurd things (possibly not even in the Greek system). Sororities don't just consider looks, but we try to connect with those rushing and try to see if we could see them in our house. Everyone joins a sorority for a different reason--to meet people, make friends, to have fun, to get that "college experience," etc.--but whatever your reason may be, it won't hurt to at least give the Greek system a try and rush. I's all about finding that house that you feel comfortable in. The Greek scene is not for everyone, but it can be a great experience and a great way to gain more connections. I personally love my chapter, and I know that I will keep in touch with these girls even after college. Basically what I'm trying to say is just to please give all the sororities a chance. They all contain amazing girls.

See, this is the type of thing that worries me about this site. Only the people who are truly insecure in their ranks come onto it and that is what causes the impressions that PNMs get.
I am going to tell you of my experience being greek. I am in one of the "top"(not that it matters) houses that commenter 1 mentioned and I have made some of the most amazing friends I've ever had in my sisterhood. These are the girls that even though we are apart I call them everyday or leave stupid or funny links on their facebook page. And although I don't know ALL 200ish girls in my house extremely well, I do know all of them by name and wave to them whenever I see them because I know that at the end of the day they'll wave back and if I look at all sad that day, they'll come ask me if I'm alright or if they're in a hurry make sure to shoot me a text if I want to grab coffee of sit in the house in talk. I would do anything for most of the girls I've met through my house and its truly about finding your fit. If you go in looking for a top house with that type of mindset you're going to find some superficial situations, but every house has amazing girls. It's all about finding who are going to be your friends... and sisters.

Please just consider rushing and if it doesn't work, you tried. Hope you have a nice summer

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm really not into the whole "rank" thing. I like that AXO really isn't into the popularity contest on campus. Still thinking it over, but if I do rush I'll keep these houses in mind.

This is the second message I've just read from an AXO. Both of them are posing as a PNM saying how they like it that AXO is not into "popularity" so that makes them like the house.

Really AXO. That's all you've got? "We like it that we're not well liked"?????

How is it shocking to know that a lot of girls don't consider Greek life a competition against sororities??? No PNM comes into usc with that mindset, sites like these and hateful members like you teach them!

To all PNMs reading, please keep an open mind at rush and ignore sites like these! Every house is perfect in its own way!

if you're looking for houses that aren't into popularity contests I'd say tridelt and adpi are settled with their rank and aren't too try-hard.. alpha phi is notorious for being "self rankers" and "social climbers" (just to be honest)

and then of course all of the lower houses don't play into it either ! just my opinion :)
