That was a joke.
As long as you attend all the parties you are invited to and generally follow the rules of recruitment, you will very likely receive a bid. Everyone who reaches the Pref round and ranks all the houses they were invited back to (I.e. doesn't "suicide," or put only one house on her bid card when she attended two prefs) is guaranteed a bid.
I don't think there are many girls who are entirely released from recruitment (that is, the vast majority of people are not dropped by every single house)

However there are also a lot of girls who drop out of recruitment entirely, usually because they either don't like the process of formal recruitment, or because they were dropped by the houses they were interested in joining, and they are not interested in joining the houses that have invited them back for the next round of parties.
