panhellenic mess up?

by:

On bid day, my friend got a call from a panhellenic coordinator asking if she wanted to COB a certain house. My friend was super confused because her pref night was between DG and another top house, and she had not been told she hadn't received a bid at all. Confused, she asked the panhellenic member if she had not received any bids and why she wasn't told and all of that, and the panhellenic member sounded even more confused than her, apologizing and saying "one second" a bunch. Then, they told her they would call her back to confirm. After a while, panhellenic called again and said there had been a mix-up, and they had "called the wrong girl" and that she had a bid. However, as her RCs were also talking to panhellenic it seemed that the other girl was actually switched with my friend, and that is why the "system" deemed my friend as having no bid. My question is, had my friend not questioned the phone call, what would have happened? is it possible than panhellenic messed up and errors like these went unnoticed?

It's known as the Sorority Bid Scam and happens every year. Did the caller request a credit card number for the COB Fee and attempt to verify her social security number? Lot's of girls got this call. Most recognized the scam and hung up on the caller.

I got the same call and quickly figured out it was scam. Never give out personal information to anyone that calls you out of the blue.

Nope it wasn't a spam, they didn't ask for her credit card information or anything, just told her that if she wanted to accept the bid to show up to bid day. she varied that the number was a legit usc panhellenic person and everything.

You need to go back and get your story straight.

How is my story not straight? the person who called her from panhellenic said "hello, X sorority wants to invite you to join them, if you would like to accept this all you have to do is show up to bid day like everyone else." My friend then asked "what do you mean?" and was super confused because, like I said, her pref night was between 2 top houses and she HAD NOT been told she was cross-cut or anything. The person over the phone never asked her for any personal credit card information or such, and when she texted her RCs they too confirmed that the number who had called her was someone from panhellenic and that they were going to ask what was going on on her behalf.

There is clearly no friend and your story is all over the place. This story is either about you or completely made up to get attention.

Whatever is going on here you should check your credit report and make sure nothing strange has occurred recently.

Wow you're so right! i totally went through all the trouble of explaining this to get attention! it couldn't have possibly been because this actually happened to a friend of mine and I was curious to see if it had happened to other people or if it was even common that panhellenic would mix up PNMs. Go you!
