I got dropped by all the chapters before preference and honestly I'm super sad about it. What's spring rush like? Or is it worth rushing in the fall as a sophomore? Should I even rush again or will I just be wasting my time?

Tons of sophomores make it into chapters every year all over the board tier-wise. I'm going to ask some tough questions, though:

(1) Did you get dropped by ALL chapters completely, or did you get asked back to enough chapters that you were able to drop some early on, and then got dropped by the rest?

There are girls that get asked back to everybody, so they drop the lower and even some mid-tier chapters, but then can't quite make it if their final 5 are, say, Pi Phi/DG/Kappa/Alpha Phi/Theta, but they could have made it into ADPi, Gamma Phi, etc if they had still had those options. In that case, it's honestly partially being bad luck. I think girls like this get screwed over the most, but you should be fine next year.

Or did you get dropped by ALL chapters completely, even those that are at the bottom?

If it's the second you can still rush next year but something went wrong and unless you fix it, the same result will happen as a sophomore. Good news is it's fixable. Think hard...could it have been poor social skills, fitness, inappropriate style, bad GPA (for most sororities even if they don't personally care, their nationals make them drop certain GPAs)? Formal rush is inherently superficial. You can't dive deep into people's personalities when there are 2,000 girls to sort through. So, fit, stylish, extroverted girls dominate rush. It's just the way it is, but it can be gamed.

If it's the second, look into COBing in spring too.

Well I got invited to 6 houses for involvement and then only one house invited me back for sisterhood day. I was honestly so confused because I thought I connected really well with the girls in the other sororities. I'm really not sure what went wrong. How do I sign up for COB?

OK, so keep in mind that the chapters COBing are typically under quota for their home, so it's only a few and are probably going to be the ones you had on Involvement, whereas Fall is everybody.

The vast majority of girls that are cut are not cut because we're sitting in a room saying "oh we hate this girl, she's the worst, never invite her back"...in fact, many sororities don't even discuss you AT ALL, they just score on different criteria, give their individual numbers to the appointed person, and it all gets input behind the scenes. And the ones that do have to do so in like two words because there hundreds and hundreds of girls to get through. So it's not necessarily that you didn't connect, it's that others outscored you.

Every house is different, but things that girls are typically scored on are involvement that could help them later on (if chapters want song girls, they'll target dancers and cheerleaders; if their GPA is bad, high GPAs, etc), social skills (being cute, bubbly, quick to connect beyond "what's your major" questions), PRESENTATION (this is huge, fitness, style, good hair and makeup, most sororities legitimately have points they can assign for this although it's worded vaguely). Letters of rec and cute and fun social media accounts can get you on the radar ahead of time.

Get your fitness and style to the absolute best it can be, start small talk with five strangers every day, get involved on campus immediately in activities they'd want.

T-its are important and not to be overlooked. Consider getting work if something isn't perfect.

So I only got houses I didnt like for pref night, so I dropped. I really want to be in a sorority though. Does anyone know which houses did COB last year?

Those houses were your options. Few houses do COB and if they already cut you during formal they're going to focus on new girls.

"Really want to be in a sorority" you had two chances! If you really mean "top 4 sorority" that window is gone. They don't COB.

You should have gone to pref. If houses dropped you they're not going to take you during COB miraculously

Would it be too desparate to email houses asking them to let me know if they do cob?
