The sorority house, set to close next year, is under fire for allegedly misleading potential new members into joining. This is a troubling and deceptive move by the organization, as they appear to be seeking one final cash grab before the house shuts down. Current members and prospective recruits deserve full transparency about the future of the chapter, yet the sorority’s leadership seems intent on hiding the truth. Instead of focusing on the values of sisterhood and community that should define a sorority, this chapter seems to be prioritizing financial gain. Promising new members a long-lasting experience while secretly knowing the house’s closure is imminent feels like a blatant betrayal of trust. It’s disappointing to see an organization manipulate its members for monetary gain, especially when those joining are expecting to make lifelong connections, only to be met with empty promises. This lack of integrity reflects poorly on the sorority’s national leadership as well, who should ensure that any decisions about closures are communicated clearly and ethically. New recruits should be aware of this situation before making any decisions.

AXO, rather than monitoring and removing reviews that shed light on the truth, you should ask yourselves, hm, if so many girls are feeling this negatively about our organization, what can we do to improve our chapter? The focus on bullying and extorting members of their money (money that goes to headquarters, not the exec board, so I’m unsure why these girls are so adamant about emptying normal members’ pockets…) has led to your downfall. Again, if these reviews were like, “eww, stupidest and ugliest house ever!” that would merit removal. But these reviews are simply explaining members’ frustrations and warning future PNMs.

It’s disappointing to see what has happened with this once well-established sorority. A quick glance at their social media confirms that membership is at an all-time low, with only about 15 active members. It’s obvious that they’re struggling, especially since there seems to be no budget for events or even basic decorations. This is a far cry from what this chapter used to be, given its longstanding history on the row. It’s disheartening to witness an organization that was once a vibrant part of the community lose its footing and prestige. Hopefully, they can find a way to rebuild, but as of now, it’s clear that they’ve drifted far from their former glory.

I thought the review about AXO not being able to afford Christmas decorations was surely a joke, but oh, it is true if you look at their most recent IG post. This is a VISIBLE sign to not join because why is the only decoration some cheap fairy lights that you can get from Target? In previous years, AXO was decked out in gorgeous pine garlands, a wreath below their letters, and lights lining the whole house. It is simultaneously laughable, but also tragic. I am absolutely BEGGING PNMs to not join a house that can no longer even afford to have quality Christmas decor.

One of the most disappointing aspects is the lack of leadership within the sorority. The executive board doesn’t seem to prioritize the well-being of members, and there’s little to no mentorship for personal growth or academic success. Problems, when raised, are often swept under the rug rather than addressed.

Membership numbers are embarrassingly low. Like I mean, 76 members low. And the Spring ‘24 PC was 10 members, what a joke. Some of the other sororities get 50-70 members PER PC, while AXO is stuck with dismal numbers. This isn’t shocking since AXO has been on a downward spiral since post-pandemic.

While some members may present themselves as friendly during recruitment, the reality is that the friendships within the sorority often feel shallow. There’s a lot of gossiping and clique behavior, making it difficult to form genuine, supportive bonds. Instead of building each other up, there’s a tendency to be competitive in unhealthy ways.
