transfer student joining greek system?

I'm transferring to UBC next year, and know almost know no one at the uni. Would joining the greek system be something possible for someone who knows no connections in the greek community? Since I thought this would be the easiest way to get involved and meet new people. Would the idea of someone who just transferred deter bidders, especially in their third year?

To be honest, it is tougher to get in being an upper year. You can do fine without connections, you're just going to have to try extra harder to stand out and make them want you. Some sororities might not be looking for 3rd years just for the reason that they need freshmen to cover demographics, etc.

There were a few non-freshmen in my pledge class, so there is hope. Don't feel too bad if you don't get a bid, there are other clubs you can join, where you can meet new people as well.
