hazing...for real?

by:

I signed up for sorority fall recruitment, was really excited, and was just kind of looking for more info on greek life in general. Then I stumbled across this website...oh. my. god. I am seriously re-considering my decision to go through with recruitment. I've read some really awful things on here, but most worrying was probably the stuff about hazing...
It says on the ubc sororities website that no sororities haze. Is that actually true? Or is it just PR?
And...do people actually care what 'rank' sororities are? B/c I thought it seemed like it was focused on sisterhood, but going from this site I could be wrong.

First of all, when this website claims that sororities "haze" it is NOT the type of hazing you see in movies. Nobody is physically hurt or humiliated. I know of ONE sorority who makes their pledges pay to throw a party for the older members. Yes, this is considered hazing and they can get in trouble from International, but I doubt any of the pledges actually feel harmed in any way. It's all just for fun.

Second, people on GR care about their sorority ranking. In real life, nobody really cares. People have friends in multiple frats and sororities REGARDLESS of which "tier" they are in. As long as you're a nice person who isn't sloppy, people will like you.

Third, the fact that you care about sisterhood is a GREAT thing. If I am recruiting someone, that is the first thing I look for. Go through recruitment and don't be afraid to be yourself <3

And if you get into that sorority you'll be able to afford to pay for the pledge part or "pp" on Instagram as they call it

lol typical kappa claiming to be rich. If you don't want to get caught by international you should stop doing PP. Incredibly irresponsible.

Not a kappa who said that, trust me I'd find it hilarious if their national came and learnt about half of the stuff that went down in kappa last year

Chill with the rumours kappa literally doesn’t have a PP or at least hasn’t in years. OP - sororities dont haze and this website is a bad representation of Greek life. In real life we’re all pretty tolerable, kind people. This website brings out the worst in people for some reason.

I wish this site didn't exist! Gives people the wrong impression. If even half the things I read on here were true, then I'd drop in an instant. However, they're not. I was never hazed. As a pledge I was pretty much given the royal treatment. I had a mentor who would always make me feel comfortable and introduce me to new ppl, and I had dozens of coffee/lunch date invites etc. I met my sisters that became my best friends, and will years from now become my brides maids. Sisterhood is why I joined and it's the main reason why I love my sorority so much.

I’m in gphi and we do not haze!! I don’t think any sorority hazes for that matter. Please do not read anything else on here. I didn’t find this website until after I finished recruitment and it was a blessing in disguise. Just go with ur gut and join whichever sorority you feel most at home with! Good luck and hope you find yourself lovely sisters💞

I used to be in APhi and they forced me to drink so much liqour I almost died. They call it a sisterhood retreat but it’s just forcing young girls to drink as much as they physically can. I’m not supposed to talk about this but yes. It’s real. Be careful and if you’re scared leave.
