Indian frat boy here
by: Kumar
Born and raised in South Vancouver. Love this city and think of it as home.
I’m of Indian descent, and reading nasty comments here made me sad, and feel like I’m unwelcome in my own city, the place I’ve lived in the most, the place I call home. I don’t even know why I’m posting here, but I just feel like I have no more home, like the people I grew up with secretly hated me all along.
Now I’ve never experienced any negativity in all my life irl, not even really any race related school bullying. Maybe I should just go touch grass, and an online echo chamber isn’t representative of real life.

words online can hurt just as much as irl - the racism on this website is obscene. vancouver and ubc wouldn't be what they are today without people of every background, nationality, and ethnicity, and it's sad to see the things people are saying on here. just because it's anonymous doesn't mean there are no consequences. but it is, just like you said, an echo chamber - the posts on here are likely from the same 2 or 3 people who have nothing better to do with their lives. the very vast majority of us do not think this way.
