Questions about rushing

I'm a second year looking to rush this fall I was wondering if the fact that I have a relative who was a member of one of the frats years ago would help my chances of getting a bid? I've heard in some places it helps but in others they don't really care. Any advice and information on rushing would be greatly appreciated thank you.
