Truth about my sorority experience
by: Truth
I joined a sorority at UBC a few years ago but have since dropped and wanted to share a bit about my experience;
The Good:
-Always something to do. If you were bored, you could message your sisters and hang out.
-Mandatory study hours. I needed the structure.
-The feeling of belonging to a group.
-Philanthropy.
The Bad:
-It gets busy and exhausting at times. You're expected to go to things even when you have midterms or papers and some sororities even fine members who miss meetings.
-Hazing. Yes, it happens.
-Having to interact with the fraternities. The majority of the frats are filled with weird, greasy guys.
-$$$. Besides dues, there are also the small things that add up: t-shirts, activities, donations, etc...
-Recruitment. There is nothing more disheartening than sitting in a room full of women critiquing potential new members with their photos projected on a wall.
