Thinking of rushing Kappa

Hi! I'm looking to join a sorority in the Fall and am thinking that I really like Kappa. but I've seen lots of negativity surrounding their chapter and am scared of hazing during initiation, I heard there's lots to do with the way your body looks?? Anyways their sisterhood seems strong and I like the girls I've met from there. Can anyone comment on the chapter?

there’s legitimately 0 hazing, I would not lie to you. as far as I know, sororities at ubc do not haze, especially not like the rumours you’ll hear about at schools in the US. if you’re genuinely curious or worried, reach out to a girl in the sorority and ask.

Yeah there is no hazing because they haze themselves. hihihihihihihihih. Just kidding LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. Also Greek Rank is the most reliable platform if someone says they haze, THEY HAZE OKAY? What you gonna do? If u like Kappa rush kappa. But they need to pass the vibe check

The best advice is to go through formal recruitment, it works for a reason! This website isn’t the right place to go to learn about any sorority, and it’s better to go into recruitment as unbiased (not having a “favourite” sorority beforehand) as possible. Kkg is one of many great sororities at ubc, but you’ll end up where you’re meant to.

I think a better representation of the sororities is their individual instagrams and actually going through the rushing process! This will highlight some of the more well rounded aspects of the sorority rather than just looks and gossip you see on greekrank.

You can find negativity about literally any chapter on here that is completely delineated from what it's like in real life. There is absolutely no hazing in any of the sororities at UBC, go into formal recruitment with an open mind and see where you end up.

Oh, and just a heads up it's only called "rushing" for the fraternities, sororities it's called Formal Recruitment and you don't just go to one chapter, you meeting every single chapter in the first round of recruitment and then only go to the ones you get invited back to in the next two rounds.

I would suggest reaching out to someone in the chapter via Instagram or any other more direct platform. This website is not the place to go for questions like this or information about sororities in general as it’s saturated in superficialities for the most part, as maybe you’ve found if you’ve seen “hate” surrounding kappa or other chapters. Best advice is just to go through formal recruitment though, even though you may like a sororities reputation or their “ranking”, at the end of the day your experience in a sorority will be dictated by the connections you build with its members. This is why it’s important to go through FR and talk to girls from each sorority to see where you feel the most connection and at home.

im confused about the hazing - no sororities haze. they are pretty strict about this.

the hazing rumours you heard about how your body looks comes from the states (like all sororities in the US tbh).its not applicable here

Ya hazing is defs not a thing in the Sororites. Not in kappa but liked their vibe when I went through formal recruitment! FR can be kinda tiring and stressful cause it’s full days of talking to strangers and getting judged lowkey but I still recommend cause you get a good idea of the vibes of each chapter and if ur not feeling it you can drop

as a member of one of those with very close friends in each of those sororities... they don’t haze. I wouldn’t lie and I wouldn’t want someone to go through hazing if there was any way I could prevent it. the sororities at ubc take hazing very seriously, and with the Greek system already facing controversy, they wouldn’t risk further issues by hazing. I would never have joined a sorority if there was hazing as it’s something I’m very uncomfortable with.

^ honestly a fair point, and I’m not sure why there’s such a difference between the sororities and frats, but the sororities honestly don’t haze at ubc. I feel like it has to do with old gender role type things and masculinity and building brotherhood, but sororities legitimately do not haze here.
