Is 25 too old to rush?
by: Thinking about rushingI’m really interested in rushing the sororities, however that will work this year. Thing is I’m currently completing my second degree (still undergrad) and I’m 25... would that be weird? The school where I did my first degree didn’t have sororities and I would love to experience it here. If it helps I’m very attractive, outgoing and also really fun to be around. Just by browsing sorority instas I really love kappas and I’m also a huge fan of gamma phi’s and their sophisticated vibe. I’m also a legacy for adpi. Any advice is appreciated, thank you (:

There’s actually a girl in kappa who just graduated and is 26 or 27. She was also completing her second degree and was really involved in greek life.
I’d say go for it. I honestly think you wouldn’t have that much trouble. However, be aware of a few things. Firstly, sororities are made up of girls who are mostly 18-23, you probably will be the oldest one. Pledge classes are made up of girls who are around 18-20, so there will definitely be a maturity difference between you and them. It’ll be a lot of their first times drinking alcohol which you might find annoying.
Being a legacy will definitely help you. Are you a legacy of the UBC chapter? If so, I’ve never heard of a UBC chapter legacy not getting a bid from that respective chapter, especially if it was an older sister.

There’s also a bunch of srat alums who are in their mid 20s who still hang around the frats. Really not all that uncommon tbh

I would say it would definitely be really weird. The girls in your pledge class would be mostly 17/18 or 19, and even the oldest girls in the chapter would be 22 or 23 at best.
I don't even think it would be a good experience for you either? I cannot imagine being 25 and spending my time at a fraternity exchange on Wednesday nights with a bunch of 18 year olds, it would be kind of uncomfortable for everyone involved actually. Or having to submit my grades to a sorority exec member that's like five years younger than me. Imagine getting told what you can and cannot put on your social media by a bunch of girls who were in grade 7 the year you graduated high school. There are more age appropriate things to get involved with at UBC during your degree.

Oh and btw describing yourself as "very attractive" and wanting to party/hang out with 18 year olds when you're 25 is weird AF lol. You're going to be the only 25 year old coming through recruitment if you do go ahead with it and everyone will know you were the one that made this post.

Everyone was totally fine with the older kappa actually. She must’ve been 24 or so when she pledged. She was super involved and got invited to a lot of frat semis etc.

Not that it matters, but I'm in one of the sororities that OP mentions and I know for a fact my chapter does not want a 25 year old new member lol. Most 25 year olds are getting their Masters or in full time careers at this point, it's a little weird to be spending your time checking out sorority Instagrams instead. OP was looking for honest answers, this is an honest answer.

okay so I joined this year in my final year of university and honestly I'd say go to recruitment just to feel it out and say you did, but I don't think it'll be very enjoyable for you. I feel so old in comparison to my pledge class (like one of the people above said it's mostly 18-19 year olds in first/second year of university). Their mindset is just very different from the mindset you have when you're older and in your final years. No one is judging you for taking longer with your degree, its not about that, its just being in greek makes you feel older than you actually are because everyone around you is so young. Which as a result, makes you feel disconnected from those around you regardless of which sorority you choose. Go through recruitment, if you have an open mind and you're willing to accept that the events/parties might feel a little uncomfortable for you at times then theres no harm in giving it a shot!

There was also a girl in aphi who joined last year that was like 26 or something. I think she dropped though.
