Questions about rushing
by: QI was accepted into UBC and am considering joining Greek life. I know this site is mostly opinions, but it sounds like there's top sororities and bottom ones. Are the top ones still diverse? Or are they literally only known for their looks? And what if I like a lower one more than an upper one? Does that affect what kind of events I can go to?

try not to pay too much attention to this website! it's much more dramatic on here than it actually is in real life. all the sororities generally have diverse members, and while people comment on appearance a lot on here, having members who are social and involved is way more important to the success of a sorority than looking a certain way. If you like a "lower tier" sorority more you should join it, the events you get invited to are based on who you make friends with - ie no one will not invite someone to something just based on rankings. You will 100% have a better experience if you join based on what you personally like the most rather than based on rankings

like the other answers said, try not to think too much about tier! each chapter has great things about them, including the ones you typically only hear about their looks for. if you like a lower tier one better you should accept that bid if you get it! you'll have a much better time if you meet girls you feel comfortable with. i'm not sure what you meant by invited to events, but you'll meet tons of people in the Greek system if you're involved! in addition to the people in your chapter, every frat and sorority has philanthropy events, then there's semis and formals, parties, etc. tons of things to attend and get invited to!

I feel like no one says this because it’s not something that you can advertise. Frats tend to treat girls in top tiers better, it’s not just frats even girls in other sororities. Not everyone is like that though. However as a whole there are frats that choose not to associate with certain sororities because they aren’t top 4, whether its inviting them to parties, semi or formal or having exchange with them. However there are individuals who are not in the top 4 who get invited to things and that mostly has to do with their personality. Tldr: yes there is a difference but if you’re a chill person you will fit in

agreeing with the person above, you’ll get invited to events if you know people and you’re chill. It’s more likely that you’ll know more guys in frats that your sorority is close with/has good relations with because you’ll spend more time with them and get to know some of them better. all the sororities have different relations with frats, so who you end up knowing in the greek system might depend on that

Tiers are irrelevant. These are the girls you are going to be studying with, going to parties with, going to weekly chapter meetings with, travelling with, and just generally spending a lot of your time at UBC with. No matter what chapter you are in you will find a great group of girls, every chapter is pretty diverse, and you will be part of a great community, whether that's a "top" chapter, mid or "bottom" - a small number of people post about that stuff on Greekrank and everyone else is just having fun and trying to make their chapter the best it can be. Yes there are higher and lower tier chapters but I have been in the Greek system quite a few years and I have seen certain sororities and fraternities completely change the relations they have and become close with totally different chapters bc you know what? People graduate and leave every year, new people come in, and friendships are shaped by that.
